Evolution in relationships

Working with and honoring nature’s cycles of growth can bring a great deal of joy and beauty to our lives, and particularly to our relationships.

by John English —

Now is a great opportunity to move from the rebirth of spring into the energy, power and warmth of summer. Working with and honoring nature’s cycles of growth can bring a great deal of joy and beauty to our lives, and particularly to our relationships.

There is one constant to life: the constant of change. Change is driven by a force in the universe — a force that is only imaginable and that we often struggle to define. This is why ancient wisdom doesn’t try to define the One Spirit that many refer to as God.

The positive outcome of this force is experienced in our lives as evolution. The key to having healthy, fulfilling and mutually beneficial relationships is working with this evolutionary wind at our backs and honoring the natural cycles of life. This is true for all types of relationships, from romantic ones to friendships and every type in between.

Within all of our relationships is a natural cycle of rebirth (spring), new energy and warmth (summer), maturation and integration (autumn) and death of the old (winter), so there can be transformation and rebirth again, continuing the evolutionary cycle.

If we understand this natural cycle and use its power in our relationships, we will be going with the flow of this ineffable force in the universe. We can do this by allowing others space and supporting and encouraging them to grow. When we resist this process, we become fearful and controlling in our relationships.

Because of the one constant in the universe, this latter type of relationship will need to die off to benefit the involved parties or it will likely hinder their growth. Therefore, it makes sense to use this natural cycle and the force behind it to keep our relationships fresh and exciting.

In the following months, allow the power, warmth and energy of summer to enter your life and awareness. Invite this warmth into your being to permeate every atom of your existence. Then use it to support all of your relationships so that everyone involved has the opportunity to fulfill their potential. If you do this, the very force in the universe that propels evolution will guide and support your relationships with beauty and power.
