Is your thyroid balanced?

If you are pre-, peri- or postmenopausal, there is a high likelihood that you have low progesterone levels.

by Dr. Emil Faithe —

Do you suffer from uncontrollable weight gain? Is your hair falling out? Are you exhausted, angry or depressed? Millions of people, mostly women, are living with imbalanced thyroids. Many have low thyroid function, despite the fact that their blood tests are normal. Others have been taking thyroid medicine all their lives.

Why is this? Here’s one good reason: their sex hormones are out of balance.

If you are pre-, peri- or postmenopausal, there is a high likelihood that you have low progesterone levels. If you have had a hysterectomy, even a partial one, you can count on it. Progesterone imbalances can occur at any age, especially if you’ve used hormonal birth control or if you’re genetically inclined.

Low progesterone equals low thyroid function

The simple but important truth of the matter is that when progesterone levels are low, thyroid function is usually very low. That’s why so many women around the age of menopause (which for some can start as early as age 30 or for others as late as 65) have a difficult time keeping the weight off, no matter how much they exercise or how healthily they eat.

Premenopausal women who have difficult periods or who suffer from migraines, mood swings, insomnia, anxiety, and/or breast or ovarian cysts will also likely find their sex hormones — progesterone, estrogen and testosterone — are out of balance. Correcting these through natural means can be a godsend — a simple answer to long-standing health symptoms. And remember, for both men and women, hormones control emotional and physical well-being. As such, you could say that hormones rule the world.

It’s also important to understand that blood testing for these hormones, as well as for thyroid function, is often inaccurate and misleading. This is why so many women and men continue to have metabolic and other health issues.

So, if you’re taking thyroid medication and prescription hormone creams, but you are still not feeling better, go holistic. Get your thyroid and hormones checked by a qualified holistic practitioner and start feeling better today.
