Kyanite is an aluminum silicate mineral that crystallizes as flat mica-like layers, forming elongated blades that can be twisted or straight. Its hardness ranges from 4.5 to 7, depending on the direction by which it is measured.

In the past, cutting this stone for jewelry-making could be difficult. However, in recent years, it has become possible through laser technology, an effective method to cut across the crystal axes to create jewelry with the optimum hardness of 6 to 7. Kyanite occurs in a large range of colors, the most popular for metaphysical use being blue, black and green.

The kyanite blade is a very powerful transmitter. It builds energetic bridges of light between contrasting aspects of experience. This bridge is extremely protective against negativity, dissipating hostility and pushing away that which you choose to discard.

The strong energy that kyanite emits restructures mental energies by creating pathways of light and information where none existed before. These pathways bring about a more harmonious connection and communication.

Kyanite’s energy is unlimited in application, making it one of the finest attunement stones. It never needs clearing or cleaning, and will not accumulate or retain negative energy or vibrations. Its calming effects dispel frustration and confusion in the most difficult of times. It also supports the development of one’s full potential — emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually, encouraging creativity and supporting one in the continuation of projects.

The stone is an excellent crystal for past-life recall, especially when seeking to understand a current issue or phobia that appears to have no roots in the present time.
