Thoughts about hurricanes Katrina and Rita

No matter what one believes to be the true cause, the ripple affect of these catastrophic events will continue for years, if not decades. When we view the scenes of devastation in the media, we share the feelings of loss and compassion for all those involved. Our hearts open with love. We, as a world, want to help.

We are all painfully aware of the complete and utter devastation that hurricanes Katrina and Rita leveled against the Gulf Coast. People lost their lives. Many, literally, have lost every material possession. They have become nomads in their own country. As difficult as it has been to watch these events unfold, it is even more difficult to grasp their magnitude. Many ideas, theories and ideologies exist to try to explain these tragedies.

Some say such events are prophesied in the Bible. Others say that the frequency and strength of the events are due to global warming. Others believe that Katrina was a direct result of a major vortex located directly under New Orleans and the surrounding waters. And historically this vortex was, until New Orleans was built in the past few hundred years, honored and utilized in a sacred manner. However, because of human interference, the vortex was negatively affected. Now, the land under New Orleans has been reclaimed by the vortex.

Still, others believe these are just a couple of events among many; remember December’s tsunami, with the ultimate result being a cleansing of the earth? It is believed that most of the victims of such events volunteered for this “mission,” while still in spirit form, before coming to the earthly plane. They volunteered to remove some of the negativity from Earth when they passed. And, in God’s light, this negativity is transmuted.

No matter what one believes to be the true cause, the ripple affect of these catastrophic events will continue for years, if not decades. When we view the scenes of devastation in the media, we share the feelings of loss and compassion for all those involved. Our hearts open with love. We, as a world, want to help.

However, the true picture is even more monumental. We must realize that what happens each and every day to one person, happens to all of us simultaneously. This is so because we are all connected by the universal energy that flows from, to and amongst every living being on Earth. It is imperative to realize the connectivity we have with each other, because within this connection lies our ability to change the world.

Therefore, pray not just for each and every victim of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, but for all of humankind, that we may come together in peace and love. Pray that we may exist on this planet in harmony, love and balance, not only with ourselves, but also with the animal and plant kingdoms. They, too, are living beings upon whom we mutually rely to nurture and support this planet and each other. And, know that through prayer and love, each of us can make a difference.
