Take a time out … and retreat

Retreats, especially in nature, facilitate deeper levels of introspection and awareness when you add moments of stillness. They are a time and place for renewal.

by Tina G Sacchi —

Retreating is to go solo for a few hours, a day or even longer, by withdrawing to a quiet or secluded place or space. Retreats, especially in nature, facilitate deeper levels of introspection and awareness when you add moments of stillness. They create a time away from the hustle and bustle of life, from technology, TVs, computers, cell phones, smart phones, iPods, iPads … you name it.

Retreats are a time and place for renewal. Create space in your life for taking full advantage of the opportunity to connect to yourself. This can mean going gadget-free for one day.

With all the technology available to us today, people can contact one another in myriad ways — e-mail, texting, cell phones and faxes. No doubt about it, technology offers many benefits and saves time, trees and fuel. But there is a downside: This technology can occupy and consume all of our time. Too many people constantly text and talk on their cell phones even in the company of others.

How can you truly tap into your breath and your spirit and live a spiritual life if you do not take the time to literally smell the roses? If we are too busy taking pictures of the roses or texting someone about them, instead of simply appreciating the moment, a spiritual and mind-body-spirit disconnection occurs.

It is important to take quiet time for yourself so that you can go within, retreat and simply be. There needs to be a balance. Let us focus on getting back to basics and back to ourselves. When was the last time you turned everything off, took a time out and truly connected to the most important person in your life — you.
