The following is new information regarding the dangers of using nonstick cookware, and why giving up TV watching can extend your lifespan and lessen your chances of getting cancer by up to 50 percent.
Another reason to ditch your nonstick cookware
A recent study examined blood samples taken from California women at different time periods — throughout the 1960s, the 1980s and 2009. They were examined for the presence of 12 perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), which likely originated from nonstick cookware. In each time period, perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) was present at the highest concentration, followed by perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA).
According to the study, as reported by Green Med Info: “We found the highest levels of PFOS … and perfluorohexane sulfonate … in the 1960s samples, possibly reflecting widespread use of precursor PFCs. … For PFOA, there was an approximately 10-fold increase in median concentrations from the 1960s to the 1980s, and a slight drop in the 2009 samples. … For longer chain perfluorocarboxylic acids (PFCAs), there was a continuous buildup in serum from the 1960s to 2009.”
Turning off the TV can slash your risk of dying from cancer by up to 50 percent
For years now, you have heard that the way to better health is to turn off the “boob tube” and get your body moving. But new scientific evidence shows that cutting back on TV time does more than just help you slip in a little exercise; it can also add years to your lifespan.
As reported in The Daily Mail, Time’s Healthland and MSNBC, a new study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine shows that every hour of TV watched by people age 25 or over equates to a 22-minute reduction in life expectancy.
The findings suggest that too much TV is as detrimental to longevity as smoking and lack of exercise, Time’s Healthland reports.
