Color is one of the nine basic cures of feng shui and is considered to be among the most mystical and effective of all the cures. Feng shui (pronounced fung schway) is the art of placement and energy flow.
In its simplest interpretation, feng shui uses color, shape, texture and placement to design a harmonious environment that enhances the unique function of a room. It can be used to evoke a response to a space or simply to set the stage for a particular experience.
Feng shui theory includes the five elements: fire, earth, metal, water and wood — the very same principles upon which Chinese Medical Theory is based. Each element possesses many different aspects. When these elements are incorporated with feng shui, each corresponds to certain colors and is associated with a special feeling or mood.
The direct impact of color on our existence is obvious. Some colors make us happy, while others can catapult us into gloom. Still others relax, distract or energize us.
Whether we are aware of it or not, color affects us profoundly. The next time you enter a room, take a moment to become aware of how its colors make you feel. You might be surprised by what you notice.
