Preventative health and essential oils
by Carol E. Gutierrez —
The focus of the new health care reform is on preventative health and maintaining wellness. The cost of health care is rising as the population is aging, and the majority of health care dollars are spent in the last one to two years of life.
The number of persons with chronic diseases and the inherent complications of those diseases is growing. However, most of the diseases and their complications are preventable with a balanced life and healthy choices. Medications can be helpful in managing chronic diseases, yet they are expensive and also have a number of potential side effects that can negatively impact one’s state of health and quality of life.
Using essential oils as a preventative health tool is an effective and inexpensive way to ensure health. Each essential oil has an individual chemistry profile that lends itself to efficacy in particular circumstances.
Like drug classifications, essential oil families also have similar actions and properties. They work not only on the body but also positively affect emotions and energy. For example, wood and resin oils are grounding, citrus oils are uplifting and happy, and floral oils are balancers. The essential oils support the body systems, including the immune system, the endocrine (hormones) system, the respiratory system and the elimination system (kidneys, skin, bowels). Sleep can be enhanced when oils are applied topically to the feet, across the forehead or diffused in the air.
