Summer is an amazing time of energy and power. It corresponds with the South direction of the Medicine Wheel, where the technique is dreaming. The winds of the South bring us the energy necessary to pursue our dreams and make them a reality. When we dream, power comes to us and literally infuses us with its manifestation, which is warmth.
Summer is a great time for action and fun because we are renewed with the power and energy of the sun. During this season, we must take time to dream as well. If you look back on your life, you will see that all of the accomplishments that filled you with joy and beauty began with a dream. Our life here on Earth is the dream of our higher selves. Dreaming is how we get in touch with our higher self and into a life that is empowered and on purpose.
Anyone can learn to lucid dream; medicine people and shamans use this technique almost daily. Just pick a place in your home where you won’t be interrupted. Then sit or lie down in a comfortable position. Take three deep breaths — in through the nose and let the air out through the mouth with a sigh.
A sigh is a sign to the subconscious mind that something is going to change. Then, for protection, put yourself in a column of light that goes infinitely up and infinitely down. Next have a conversation with your higher self and tell it what you want to dream about. Then allow yourself to drift down toward sleep while you focus on your intention.
You will find that, as you drift into a sleep state, your mind might wander. This is completely natural. Using your intention, bring the mind back to your intention for the dream. With a little practice, you will be able to get into a state of trance just above unconscious sleep, where you will be in touch with your power, and your mind will be the recording device to remember the information you receive.
With practice, you will also find that just 20 minutes of dreaming will make you feel as if you have slept several hours. This happens because dreaming is the technique the shaman uses to bring in energy and power. If at first you just fall asleep, do not worry — keep practicing. Eating or having a snack an hour or so beforehand can help you get into the space easier, and choosing a place in your home where you don’t normally sleep can help you remain alert for the exercise.
In the summer, the sun shines on us longer than in the other seasons. Use its power to dream. Use the process in this article to work on whatever your heart desires. Remember to spend some time daydreaming about the great things you want to accomplish in your life as well. This is very important. Our culture does not place enough emphasis on the power of daydreaming.
Summer is a time for action, and it brings the winds of the South. Ride those winds to dream into being your potential and purpose in this lifetime. When we do this, we honor the great gift of life that has been given to us, and we play its great game with energy and power.
