It is hard to feel good when you do not look good.

by Deanna Melnychuk —

Is that really you in the mirror? The dress looked so great on the mannequin. But now that you have it on — with your shoulders slouched forward and your swayback — it looks like you are wearing a too-tight body stocking that shows all your flaws. It is hard to feel good when you do not look good.

The front view of your outfit looks well put together — nice shirt, slacks pressed. But that burnished metal belt buckle is missing; in fact, where is the belt? Is it hiding under your protruding belly? You had better not turn sideways when you are on a date; and you need to straighten your feet so you do not look like a waddling duck.

Ouch! Do any of those scenarios apply to you? If so, consider trying Rolfing® Structural Integration and its companion modality, Rolf Movement® Integration. After 10 sessions of Rolfing, your body will realign itself. Within five sessions of Rolf Movement, your body relearns (remembers) how to stand, sit and walk in balance with the laws of gravity.

How does this work? A Rolfer™ will facilitate your body’s realignment by lengthening the connective tissue using her hands, fingers, arms and elbows. It is done one session at a time, as each session is a building block for the next one. But what happens when you leave the office and you start to slouch again? That is when Rolf Movement makes a difference.

A Rolf Movement session performed after the first three Rolfing Structural Integration sessions re-educates your body, helping you to release past patterns of poor posture and unproductive habits. Your body loves to be more upright and pain-free, and the new you will be easy to maintain because of the increased flexibility. Rolfing Movement is completed after sessions 5 and 7 of Rolfing Structural Integration and the two taken after session 10 will bring together all that you have learned and experienced in the latter.

Each session is 75 to 90 minutes in length and is custom-designed just for you. The freedom and confidence you will experience as you glide or stride across a crowded room will amaze you. How much easier it will be to give a presentation, meet a new friend or speak in an interview when you feel good about your appearance and you are not uncomfortable or in pain.

Rolfing is the first step toward a new way of being — looking good and feeling even better.
